Southampton defender Matt Targett is reportedly attracting the interest of many Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Arsenal supporters on Twitter have been left unimpressed with reports that they want to sign Southampton defender Matt Targett this summer.
TeamTalk have claimed Arsenal have joined the race for Targett’s signature, whilst another English outlet, 90 min claim that the left-back is also attracting interest from Liverpool.
Arsenal finished outside of the top-four during the recently concluded campaign, with their season ending with a Europa League final defeat to Chelsea.
It was obvious during the recent Premier League campaign, and even more so during the Europa League final, that the Gunners need some serious surgery at the back.
A player like Targett isn’t the answer, especially considering that he is back-up to Ryan Bertrand at St Mary’s and he still hasn’t made a name for himself in England’s top-flight.
In recent seasons, Liverpool have had a history of signing Southampton players and it wouldn’t be a surprise if another Saints player lands on their doorstep again.
