Holding looked like a player who had been performing at the top level for years against the Swiss side, with Arsenal running out as comfortable winners.
Arsene Wenger took a little flak when he bought Holding from Bolton Wanderers in the summer, but that was only because he was signed before Shkodran Mustafi.

Prior to last night, Holding had three Premier League starts to his name and three League Cup appearances, and with group qualification assured, Wenger chose the ideal time to throw him in.
Basel presented little threat, but Holding did everything he was expected to.
Holding completed 92 per cent of his passes, won three tackles and made two interceptions.
