His addition has been overshadowed by the incoming deal for Lille’s Nicolas Pepe, at more than 10 times the price.
Martinelli could end up looking excellent value for money, regardless of how Pepe does.
In pre-season he has not looked daunted, getting on the scoresheet on his debut, and last night linking up well with goalscorer Reiss Nelson.
It’s early days, but Martinelli’s pre-season performances are encouraging.
