Everton have beaten Arsenal to the signature of Henry Onyekuru.

Arsenal appear to have missed out on the signing of Henry Onyekuru, with Everton set to sign the forward.

The Mail report Everton have struck a deal with Belgian side Eupen, and will get around work permit concerns by loaning him to Anderlecht for the season.

Onyekuru had become one of Europe’s most wanted talents, with the Nigerian linked to half a dozen Premier League sides.

Arsenal were the most high profile team to join the hunt, but ambitious Everton have made their move.

Everton had activated a £6.8 million release clause in Onyekuru’s contract.

The 20-year-old scored 22 goals last season and could go on to star at next summer’s World Cup for his country.

If that happens then Everton really will have bought low on a bargain, and they will be watching his progress at Anderlecht closely.

The Mail reported that Arsenal had been leading the chase for Onyekuru, but in recent days they have been more active in their pursuit of Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.

They are no closer yet to signing the France international, and while it is early on in the transfer window, Gunners fans hope this is not a sign of more disappointment to come.
