Danny Welbeck has been ruled out for a number of months after undergoing surgery on his knee.

Arsenal’s transfer inactivity has been thrown into further question by the news striker Danny Welbeck has been ruled out for several months with injury.

The club’s official website confirmed Welbeck faces ‘a period of months’ on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.

It was also announced that the decision for the striker to go under the knife was taken last week, before the transfer window closed.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger clearly still feels he has enough in terms of alternate options in his squad, but the reaction from supporters on social media differs.

Welbeck played a key role this time last season for the Gunners, filling in for Olivier Giroud while he was injured, even if his role dwindled afterwards.

The news not only affects Arsenal but England too, with Euro 2016 qualifiers upcoming. The news does not though come as a complete surprise, given the fact he missed pre-season and the entire campaign to date.

This time around if Giroud were to get injured, Theo Walcott would be expected to fill in up front, while Alexis Sanchez could also play in the role or potentially Joel Campbell. Yaya Sanogo has been sent out on loan as has Chuba Akpom.
