Arsenal fell to their first league defeat of the season on Monday night, as they were beaten 3-1 away at Liverpool.

The Gunners went into the game in exactly the same position as last term; two wins from two before heading to Anfield in their third game of the campaign.

Last season, they lost 3-1 at Anfield; and it was exactly the same again, though they did take the lead this time through Alexandre Lacazette.

Sadio Mane quickly equalised for the Reds, and Andrew Robertson atoned for his error in the Arsenal goal by putting Liverpool in front.

New signing Diogo Jota killed off the game late on, handing Liverpool another 3-1 win – but Arsenal showed some better signs than they did just over a year ago.

There weren’t many impressive individual displays to speak of, but midfielder Dani Ceballos did impress when he came on after 70 minutes.

Ceballos showed the ability to beat Liverpool’s press and pick off their high line, creating a golden chance for Lacazette which was squandered.

Mohamed Elneny was preferred to the Spaniard from the start, but Ceballos did enough as a substitute to draw huge praise from Arsenal fans on Twitter.

Fans called Ceballos ‘incredible’, ‘terrific’ and ‘absolutely unreal’, believing that he was the ‘game changer’ for Arsenal and he should have started the game.
