The former Arsenal forward could be returning to London if the reports are true, and it’s fair to say that Gunners fans found the story entertaining.

Arsenal supporters have been reacting to the news that London rivals QPR are reportedly looking into signing former Gunners striker Nicklas Bendtner, a player with a rather temperamental history to say the least, and predictably, the tweets were colourful.

The Danish international has been linked to the Hoops by ESPN, having first broken into senior football during a loan spell with Birmingham City, helping them to promotion from the Championship as an 18-year-old.

He would go on to become a regular squad member for Arsene Wenger’s side over the next few years with the Gunners, making 171 appearances and scoring 47 goals. However, despite his early promise, supporters and pundits failed to see development and Bendtner slipped from favour at the Emirates, first heading out on loans to Sunderland and Juventus, and then being released by Wenger at the end of his contract.

Bendtner did shine for his national team however, boasting an impressive record of 29 goals in 74 matches, but his club form has failed to pick up since his youth, and he was released once again this summer after two years with Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, following issues with his behaviour.

But R’s boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink seems prepared to take a risk on the 28-year-old, whose talent, though often mocked, is certainly enough for him to be of use in the Championship. If the Dutchman can help Bendtner get his focus back, perhaps he and QPR will end up having the last laugh.

Below are a selection of tweets indicating how Arsenal fans reacted to the news on Twitter, with many coming with a fair, and unsurprising slice of sarcasm:
