Spanish outlet Marca (09:15) have claimed today that Arsenal have offered a contract to Malang Sarr. The Frenchman is a free agent having left Nice at the end of his contract last month.

The general consensus regarding Arsenal is their lack of quality centre-halves. David Luiz has had his problems recently, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos’s future is in the air having not started a game since the restart.

Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari are not expected to return for the start of next season, while Rob Holding hasn’t looked like his previous self since injury.

Shkodran Mustafi is arguably Arsenal’s best defender at the moment and he is likely to be Mikel Arteta’s first-choice starter for the new season as well.

The Arsenal boss has opted for three at the back in recent games. Sead Kolasinac is being used as a centre-half and, although he has done extremely well there, it is not his regular position.

Sarr, a left-footed centre-half, could be ideal for Arteta and, considering that he is still only 21, it makes sense for the Gunners to take a punt.

The Frenchman could form a long-term partnership with his fellow countryman William Saliba at Arsenal and with him being a free agent, there is almost no risk for the Gunners to sign him.

Some Arsenal fans feel that it is a very smart move by Edu to bring in a quality young defender with massive potential for no money.

Here is how a few of them reacted on Twitter:
