The chances of Arsenal signing Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey are going down day by day. The rumours are clearly gaining pace but the current financial climate makes it extremely difficult for the Gunners to be able to afford him.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta seems to have understood that and has now found an alternative if the Gunners cannot bring in Partey this summer.

ESPN have claimed today that Arsenal are interested in signing Porto’s Danilo Pereira in this summer’s transfer window. The 28-year old is hugely experienced for both club and country, and he would be a very interesting signing.

The report claims that the Porto skipper’s experience is one of the qualities that Arteta is looking for this summer to bring some maturity to this young Arsenal squad.

Danilo is one of Porto’s most important players. The 6ft 2in midfield powerhouse has a release clause of £54.3 million but the report claims that Porto are prepared to let him leave for a third of that due to their own financial problems.

£18 million for a hugely experienced midfielder isn’t that big a price to pay in today’s day and age. The Portuguese international could prove to be a very smart signing for the Gunners in a position of massive priority this summer.

Arsenal’s number six position has been lacking for years now. Their defence never really has enough cover and a player like Danilo could potentially solve that problem for Arteta.

Gunners supporters would obviously prefer Partey but a few them seem to have noticed the value Danilo could bring to the squad.

Here’s how a few Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter.
