On Monday, reports broke of Arsenal making a contract offer to Paris Saint-Germain defender Tanguy Kouassi. By Tuesday evening, their hopes appeared over.
Kouassi, 18, has come up through the PSG ranks. With two goals in six first-team games for the French champions, he has already made a big impact.
Touted to become a star of the future, Kouassi has been facing a big decision. His contract was due to expire at the end of the month, with PSG battling to keep him.
Le10 Sport reported on Monday that Arsenal had offered Kouassi a deal, in the hope of tempting him into making the move to North London.
Naturally, Arsenal fans were excited. Kouassi is a hot prospect, and could have formed a strong partnership with fellow French youngster William Saliba for years to come.
Sadly for Arsenal, they appear to have missed out. Fussball Transfers claim that Bayern Munich have won the race for Kouassi, and the fee of just €300,000 (£268,000) makes missing out even more difficult to swallow.

Kouassi could have been an absolute bargain for Arsenal, in times when their budget is limited. Unsurprisingly, Arsenal fans on Twitter aren’t too happy.
Some admitted that they were fuming at hearing the news, believing that Arsenal can’t be missing out on such talented players.
Others suggested that Arsenal lack ambition and have really missed out here, with one fan suggesting ‘here we go again’ as the Gunners were pipped to a potentially exciting signing.
