Arsenal have high hopes for William Saliba, but his Gunners career hasn’t taken off yet despite the high fee on his head.
The Gunners paid £27million to sign Saliba from Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2019, but sent him back to the Ligue 1 club for last season.
Mikel Arteta seemingly didn’t fancy Saliba though, with no senior games to his name this season despite some shaky defensive displays from the Gunners.
Come January, Saliba was farmed out on loan again, this time joining Nice until the end of the season in order to pick up more playing time.
Saliba has been a regular so far, and Arsenal will be very encouraged by the latest news regarding the 19-year-old’s performances.
On Saturday, the centre back was named as Nice’s Player of the Month for January, summing up just how impressive he has been since arriving.
Arsenal fans have been taking to Twitter to react, suggesting that they can’t understand why Arteta kept him out of the side when he clearly has quality.
Some want him in the side over Rob Holding, and believe that Saliba will strike a great partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes moving forward, with supporters already looking forward to next season.
