In doing so, the Arsenal midfielder now has three goals and three assists in his last six Premier League outings under Mikel Arteta.
This is the sort of creative spark that Arteta has desperately needed for most of his managerial career in North London.
The Spaniard inherited one hell of a playmaker in the form of Mesut Ozil, but their relationship soured and the former Germany international didn’t kick a ball for Arsenal post-pandemic, before having his contract torn up at the Emirates Stadium 12 months ago.
Ozil left the North Londoners with a tarnished legacy over the fans’ reservations about his commitment and attitude.
But quite a lot of Arsenal supporters have preserved an affinity for the former Real Madrid maestro.
On Boxing Day, he helped Fenerbahce to a 2-0 victory Yeni Malatyaspor.

Comparisons between Odegaard and Ozil are inevitable.
There’s no doubting that Odegaard is a massive talent and playing extremely well right now, but consistency is what’ll set him apart from Ozil.
Not that Ozil was consistent because he wasn’t, but that’s the point.
If the Norwegian can do it for Arsenal on a regular basis, scoring and setting up goals, then he’ll be far more fondly remembered by this fanbase than his predecessor ever was.
