Arsenal want Facundo Torres
The name in the frame is Orlando City talent Facundo Torres.
The London Evening Standard report that Arsenal are set to hold talks with the agent of winger Torres in an attempt to secure a deal.
Arsenal allowed Nicolas Pepe to leave the club on loan for Nice before the deadline but didn’t replace him.
Reiss Nelson may have scored twice against Nottingham Forest on Sunday but more competition is needed out wide.
Torres, 22, emerged with Penarol in his native Uruguay – the same club who produced the likes of Federico Valverde and Darwin Nunez.
Torres joined Orlando at the start of 2022 and he became an instant hit in America.
13 goals and 10 assists in 40 games for Orlando is an outstanding record and Torres could offer the depth Arsenal are seeking.
Capable of playing on either flank, Torres could be exactly what Arsenal need whilst being considerably cheaper than Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Arsenal fans may even remember Torres from pre-season action as he scored a superb low strike past Aaron Ramsdale in a friendly against the Gunners.
The idea will be for Torres to cut in from the right flank just like Bukayo Saka – and he is clearly very highly-rated at Orlando.
Orlando City veteran Junior Urso told MLS Soccer that he thinks Urso is an ‘amazing player’ whilst claiming that he is mature beyond his years.
“Facundo is an amazing player,” Urso said. “I know he’s young but he plays like an old guy, a good mind. We’re lucky to have him,” he added.
That’s the kind of thing Arsenal fans want to hear and may well explain why Edu wants him; the combination of ability and character.
