Arsenal want Facundo Torres and they may now need to accelerate their move for the winger after being included in Uruguay’s World Cup squad.

Saturday’s 2-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers means Arsenal will be top of the Premier League table at Christmas.

The Gunners took full advantage of Manchester City’s slip-up against Brentford to open up a five-point gap at the top of the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta will be well aware that Arsenal need some more additions in January and Edu appears to be eyeing up a winger.

Arsenal want Facundo Torres

Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk has been linked but Arsenal’s interest in signing Facundo Torres from Orlando City is also strong.

The London Evening Standard reported that Arsenal were set to hold talks with the agent of winger Torres in an attempt to secure a deal.

It’s unclear just how those talks went but Arsenal could add another MLS signing after deals for Auston Trusty and Matt Turner.

Goal have also reported that Torres is very keen on joining Arsenal in 2023.

Torres, 22, only joined Orlando City earlier this year but racked up 13 goals and 10 assists in 40 outings.

Orlando City veteran Junior Urso told MLS Soccer that he thinks Torres is ‘amazing’ having dazzled in the States.

Predominantly left-footed, Torres would figure to be the replacement for Nicolas Pepe whilst coming in at a fraction of the price.

Torres has now given Arsenal something to think about having been called up to the Uruguay squad for the World Cup.

Torres may not start regularly for Diego Alonso’s side but he can make a real impact for Uruguay over in Qatar.

Fabrizio Romano has already stated that other Premier League clubs want Torres and Arsenal will clearly face a battle for the winger.

Torres being able to showcase his qualities on the world stage is great for him but may leave Arsenal facing even more competition.

That means Edu and co may now have to move quickly to set up a deal before the World Cup can begin.

Arsenal would surely hate to miss out on Torres and Uruguay’s squad announcement means the Gunners may been to move now to avoid disappointment.
