Arsenal are one of a number of Premier League sides with their eye on Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters – and Ian Wright thinks he is better than Tottenham’s current right-back options.

Walker-Peters, 25, left Spurs in 2020 to join Southampton after just 24 senior appearances. He has gone on to shine for the Saints, clocking up 82 appearances in two seasons and becoming an England international.

Reports claim that Arsenal are among the clubs looking at Walker-Peters this summer despite boasting Cedric Soares and Takehiro Tomiyasu – and despite his Spurs connections. Spurs have a buyback clause of £30million.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast during the 2021-22 season, Arsenal legend Wright said he could not understand Tottenham’s decision to sell. He said he is better than Matt Doherty, Emerson Royal and Serge Aurier.

“When I watched Serge [Aurier] for a couple of games I’m thinking ‘I’m sorry, Kyle Walker-Peters is a better player’,” Wright said – as per The Mail. “They brought Emerson Royal in and I’m saying I’m sorry, he’s a better player.

“And even with Doherty, who does great stuff going forward, I’ve watched Walker-Peters and I’m glad he’s got the call-up. I’m thinking why have Tottenham got rid of him when you see how he plays?”

Walker-Peters would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal – if Walker-Peters can put his Tottenham allegiance aside. A London-born defender, England international, who is still relatively fresh at 25.

But it would mean Arsenal would have to cash in on one of their right-backs. Most likely Cedric, given Tomiyasu only joined last summer. Cedric might be open to an exit given he will know he is second choice at The Emirates.
