Arsenal are backing away from Dominic Calvert-Lewin but could return for the Everton striker in the future.
It’s no great secret that Arsenal need to add a new striker this summer.
Alexandre Lacazette has rejoined Lyon and whilst Eddie Nketiah has signed a new deal, he shouldn’t be Arsenal’s first-choice striker.
A host of names have been linked and it looks like Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is the top target.
That means other targets may be falling out of the frame and one of those appears to be Calvert-Lewin.
Arsenal are backing away from Dominic Calvert-Lewin
The Daily Star claim that Arsenal are ditching their interest in Calvert-Lewin after a disappointing season.
Everton striker Calvert-Lewin came into the campaign with big expectations after 16 Premier League goals in the 2020-21 season.
Three goals in three games to start the season was a decent start, even if two were penalties, but Calvert-Lewin then spent four months on the sidelines with an injury.
When Calvert-Lewin returned, he found it difficult to hit top form and scored just twice in 14 games.
The 25-year-old just didn’t look his normal self and that appears to have cost him the chance of a big move.

It’s suggested that Arsenal are no longer interested in signing Calvert-Lewin this summer but could return for him in the future.
Arsenal are generally big fans of Calvert-Lewin but his injury problems and lack of goals means Edu and Mikel Arteta are shelving him.
A physical striker with outstanding aerial ability, Calvert-Lewin would have added something different to this Arsenal side.
Yet with Arsenal seeking a quality goalscorer to take them into the top four, they seem to have decided that this just isn’t the time to pick Calvert-Lewin.
