Arsenal have been heavily linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin but they have to be worried about the Everton man’s difficult season so far.
The Gunners simply have to splash the cash on a new striker this summer with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah out of contract this summer.
If both leave – which currently looks likely – Arsenal may need two or even three strikers to bolster their attacking ranks this summer.
That won’t come cheap for Arsenal and Edu will have to spend his money very wisely to improve Mikel Arteta’s side.
One of the key names in the mix is believed to be Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with The Sun claiming that Arsenal want a £60million deal.
Calvert-Lewin has been a nightmare for Premier League defenders to handle in recent times but Arsenal may be more than a little concerned about his troublesome season.
Calvert-Lewin started the season well with three goals in the first three games, but two of those goals were from the penalty spot.
The striker was then out injured from the end of August to the start of January, missing four months of the campaign.
Calvert-Lewin may have returned but hasn’t scored a single goal since coming back and has registered just the one assist.
A serious injury and disappointing form – especially from open play even before this injury – is hardly the greatest mix.
If Arsenal are spending £60million on a striker, they need to know they will be reliable in terms of playing regularly and then be prolific when they play.
Calvert-Lewin hasn’t ticked either box this season and you could hardly blame Edu for reconsidering that planned move.
Everton’s financial problems may leave Arsenal offering a lot less than that £60million, with more than a few question marks over whether Calvert-Lewin can kick on to another level after a frustrating season.
