Everton have joined Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the race for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show (January 28, 2021).

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has said on The Transfer Show on Sky Sports News that Villa midfield Luiz is among the players Everton are looking at signing in the January transfer window.

Solhekol said on Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show (January 28, 2021): “Everton could make a late move for a midfielder before the window closes.

“There’s been interest in Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Douglas Luiz and Tanguy Ndombele.”

Earlier this week, 90min reported that Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in the 23-year-old Brazil international central midfielder, who cost Villa £15 million when they signed him from City in the summer of 2019 (BBC Sport).

Arsenal over Everton for Douglas Luiz

In our view, it is unlikely that Everton will be able to sign Luiz ahead of Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The Toffees could be sucked into the Premier League relegation battle, and they do not even have a permanent manager at the moment.

The 23-year-old will surely not want to move to Everton from Villa in the middle of the season.

Villa manager Steven Gerrard will not want to let go of a midfielder like Luiz, and if he is to leave, then, in our view, top-four chasing Arsenal would be far more appealing that Everton.
