Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri has been praised after taking on Slough Town in a pre-season friendly over the weekend.

It was a busy weekend for the Gunners as they played a host of friendlies across the age ranges.

Mikel Arteta’s first team were in blistering form on Saturday as they hammered Sevilla 6-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s Under-21’s lost 3-2 to Boreham Wood with Khayon Edwards and Charles Sagoe Jr on the scoresheet.

Arsenal also sent an Under-18 team to face Slough Town with Jack Wilshere’s teenagers losing out in a 1-0 defeat.

An early goal from Ben Harris gave the non-league side the victory with Arsenal’s kids ultimately second best against more experienced opposition.

Arguably the best chance for Arsenal came from a free kick with Ethan Nwaneri testing Slough goalkeeper Jonathan North.

This will have been a great test for Arsenal’s Under-18’s and Wilshere will have learned a lot from the game.

Slough boss Neil Baker spoke about the game on the club’s official website and actually picked out one Arsenal player for praise.

Baker praised Arsenal’s number 10, which was Nwaneri on the night.

Baker praised Nwaneri for his great feet and noted that Arsenal have really high hopes for him going forward.

The Slough manager added that Nwaneri has clearly got ‘absolutely unbelievable’ ability, backing him for a big future.

“I understand their number 10 has got great feet, he’s only a real youngster,” said Baker. “I think he’s a real high hope for them at Arsenal. He’s got absolutely unbelievable ability,” he added.

Nwaneri, 15, is coming up through the Arsenal ranks and has picked up two caps for England at Under-16 level.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, Nwaneri showed real potential in the Arsenal Under-18 side last season with three goals and two assists in six games according to Transfermarkt.

Praise from another manager is always nice and whilst it’s early days for Nwaneri, there is some buzz being generated about his promise with the Gunners.
