Joao Cancelo has left Manchester City for Bayern Munich on a loan-to-buy deal in one of the more surprising moves of the January window – and his Instagram post has prompted reaction from two Arsenal players, and Bruno Fernandes.
Cancelo, 28, is widely seen as one of Manchester City’s best players. But in recent games, he has been ousted from the starting XI. He has only started two of City’s last five League games, and was hooked at half-time in one of those.
Now, he has completed a loan move to Bayern Munich until the end of the season. The German champions have the option to buy the Portugal star permanently in the summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £61.5million.
Cancelo took to Instagram after his move to Bayern was confirmed on deadline day. He posted a heartfelt message, although short, to the club’s supporters. Perhaps indicating that he is not done at Manchester City, moving forward.
Arsenal players and Fernandes react as Cancelo leaves Manchester City
Cancelo is a wonderful player and City losing the Portugal man is a big blow in their title chances. Even if, he has failed to start regularly since the return from the World Cup. A move to Bayern sees him join a side that sit first in the table.
But Bayern’s form has not been perfect of late under Julian Nagelsmann, with Union Berlin only a point behind Bayern after 18 league games. Cancelo arriving at Bayern certainly strengthens his new side’s push for the Bundesliga title.
Plenty have reacted to the post by Cancelo, who could still return to the Etihad. Among those to react include Portugal ace and Man United’s Fernandes – as well as Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko and Nuno Tavares, who is also out on loan.
