Arsenal want Djibril Sow and the prospect of a move to the Emirates Stadium could appeal to the boyhood Thierry Henry fan.

The Gunners are considering a midfield addition for 2023 with Mohamed Elneny surely set to move at the end of the season.

Palmeiras star Danilo is a popular name in the rumour mill, as is Leicester City contract rebel Youri Tielemans.

Edu will likely want a player who can cover for Thomas Partey in holding midfield, but possibly have the ability to play a little further forward like Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal want Djibril Sow

The latest name in the mix is Eintracht Frankfurt star Djibril Sow.

Bild claim that Arsenal have joined Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Sow.

Sow is currently at the World Cup with Switzerland and has been impressing for Murat Yakin’s side.

The 25-year-old’s contract with Frankfurt expires in the summer of 2024, meaning he is now heading towards the final 18 months of his deal.

This could be the perfect time for Arsenal to strike, potentially securing Sow for a reasonable price with Frankfurt no doubt fearing losing him for nothing.

We could see Newcastle and Arsenal go head-to-head for Sow but the Gunners may have the upper hand.

The Bundesliga’s official website notes that Sow grew up idolising Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Sow may have become a holding or box-to-box midfielder rather than a speedy attacker, but he still loves watching Henry.

That gives Arsenal a potential selling point here; they can offer Sow the chance to follow in Henry’s footsteps by joining Arsenal and becoming a North London hero.

That could be very appealing to Sow and is the kind of emotional pull that may just enable Arsenal to beat Newcastle in this transfer race.
