Arsenal are delaying a move for Jean Seri and Tottenham Hotspur should make their move fast.

Arsenal are interested in signing Nice midfielder Jean Seri but Arsene Wenger is not planning a move until later in the summer, according to a report in The Daily Mail.

It is an odd strategy by the French manager and Tottenham Hotspur – who have also been linked – should capitalise on Wenger’s delay over signing the 26-year-old.

Seri has courted interest from a lot of clubs this summer – including Barcelona – and RMC Sport reported last month that the Ivorian midfielder has a £35 million buyout clause.

Obviously it’s a lot of money but if Tottenham are serious then now is the time to act.

The Catalans are busy trying to prise Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool and Arsenal, according to the report, don’t appear too pushed if Wenger is willing to wait.

Everton have been credited with an interest but Spurs have the allure of Champions League football to offer Seri, who has never played in the competition before.

However, it could be difficult to compete with Arsenal who, of course, cannot offer Champions League.

But the Gunners can gazump their North London rivals when it comes to personal terms and the allure of playing under a renowned man-manager such as Wenger, who often gets the very best out of Ligue 1 talents, can’t be understated.

But the veteran coach, for whatever reason, is willing to wait before making his move – and that’s an invitiation that Tottenham can’t turn down.
