Tottenham Hotspur fans may be very interested to know who Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny named as his hero.
Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has told Arsenal Player that growing up, former Tottenham star Chris Waddle was one of the his favourite players to watch, having seen the Englishman play for Marseille.
Koscielny has been one of the Premier League’s more consistent defenders over the last few years, but judging by his comments regarding the player he liked watching growing up, he dreamt of being more of an attacking force.
“I liked Chris Waddle a lot,” Koscielny told Arsenal Player. “When he used to play for Marseille he was an amazing player – technically with his left foot he was unbelievable.
“I loved to watch him because I think for him football was entertainment , he did a show. When he scored goals or gave assists he played for the fans in the stands.
While Gunners fans may not be best pleased about Koscielny’s praise for the former England international – given the career he enjoyed at White Hart Lane – it must be pointed out that the Frenchman would have been too young to really remember Waddle as a Spurs player.
Chris Waddle
The 31-year-old was born in the same year that Waddle joined Tottenham, and the defender was a couple of months short of turning four when Waddle headed to France.
Had he got to see Waddle in his Tottenham days however, it is unlikely that his opinion would be any different, as the winger was certainly exceptional as part of the Spurs side that threatened to win plenty of silverware in the late 1980s, before he went on to win three straight Ligue 1 titles in France.
