Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has offered a positive update on his fitness, insisting he is closing in on a return.

Jenkinson suffered a serious knee injury while on loan at West Ham United last season, and has been recovering and doing his rehab back at Arsenal ever since.

As he looks to bounce back from the ACL injury, Jenkinson yesterday wrote on his Instagram page that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

He said: “Great few days away recharging the batteries. It’s been a long 7 months but the end is near. I cannot wait to get back out there.”

Jenkinson comments that it has been seven months out injured, but it is actually nine, with The Mirror reporting in January that he had been ruled out for the rest of last season.

The right-back was on his second spell on loan at the time at the Hammers, and will face an uphill battle to get back into the Arsenal first team, with Hector Bellerin the clear first choice.

While Calum Chambers was loaned out to Middlesbrough, Arsenal still have Mathieu Debuchy in reserve, and Jenkinson may find that another loan move in January is his best chance of playing regular football.
