Garth Crooks has praised Arsenal right-back Ben White on BBC Sport and has praised him for the way he handled Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min in the North London derby.

Arsenal got the better of Tottenham 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

White has been playing as a right-back this season, and the former Leeds United loanee was deployed in that role against Tottenham as well.

The 25-year-old has been brilliant in his role as a right-back despite being a centre-back by trade.

And against Tottenham and South Korea international forward Son in the North London derby on Sunday, White was brilliant yet again.

And former Tottenham forward and BBC Sport pundit Crooks was impressed.

Garth Crooks on Arsenal’s Ben White v Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min

Crooks said: “Both Gabriel and William Saliba have featured in my teams this season but less so Ben White. I thought the defender was outstanding against Spurs.

“He did his job quietly and effectively and dealt with the threat of Son Heung-min brilliantly. In fact there was a moment in the first half when he had Son in his pocket.”

Important player for the Gunners

In our view, Ben White is one of the best players in the Premier League and is a key figure at Arsenal.

The way the 25-year-old has played at right-back so far this season has been remarkable.

It shows just how intelligent White is as a footballer.

It is not easy for a centre-back to suddenly start playing at right-back.

White is also a good option to have for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in central defence.

After all, you never know.

Gabriel or William Saliba could get injured or suspended, and White would have to fill in.
