Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has written on his Instagram account how happy he was with his new side’s last-gasp win over Southampton and the opportunity to play in front of the Emirates crowd.

The Germany international defender joined the Gunners from Valenica this past summer, and he made his debut alongside fellow new signing Lucas Perez in the victory over the Saints.

It wasn’t straigh-forward match for Mustafi, as he and his teammates struggled to get going in the early stages and found themselves trailing 1-0 due to Petr Cech’s unfortunate own goal.

Laurent Koscielny soon equalised for Arsene Wenger’s men, but the hosts then had to wait until the dying stages to find a winner as Santi Cazorla netted in injury time from the penalty spot.

Mustafi showed leadership qualities and the potential for plenty more to come, and he took to Instagram in order to share his thoughts on his debut with the supporters.

“Extremely happy with our last-minute win and my debut! Feels great to play in the Premier League and in-front of all you Gooners,” Mustafi wrote.

Over the course of the 90 minutes, Mustafi, 24, posted three tackles, two interceptions and four effective clearances while maintaining a 90.5% pass-accuracy rate, according to Whoscored.

Alongside Koscielny is potentially one of the best defensive partnerships in the Premier League, and with Granit Xhaka providing a shield in front, Arsenal can be confident of keeping clean sheets this term.

The Gunners’ victory leaves them on seven points and fifth in the table, but there is no doubt plenty more to come from Arsene Wenger’s side.
