Arsenal may be hoping to lure Benfica striker Darwin Nunez to North London, but Edinson Cavani is attempting to influence a Manchester United move.

Nunez finds himself as one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe having enjoyed a stunning season with Benfica.

The Uruguayan hitman has now smashed 31 goals in 36 games this season. Nunez even has three assists to his name too.

Tonight, Nunez will face Liverpool in the Champions League. Virgil van Dijk knew he was in a game against Nunez last week, with the Benfica ace scoring in a 3-1 defeat.

At just 21, Nunez appears to have the world at his feet. It’s likely that Benfica will sell up this summer, no doubt taking huge cash.

Arsenal have allegedly started talks with Nunez’s representatives with Edu desperate to bring in a new striker this summer.

However, The Athletic claim that Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are leading the race for Nunez.

There is now another report emerging as 90Min claim that United star Cavani is pushing for Nunez to be snapped up.

Cavani allegedly tipped United off about Nunez in 2021 and has now given a positive reference about the striker.

Cavani is likely to be moving on himself this summer, but still wants to see his fellow Uruguayan striker make the move to Old Trafford.

Having Cavani’s backing may just tempt Nunez into picking United, and the veteran’s influence will be a blow for Arsenal.

One thing that could work in Arsenal’s favour is that they are more likely to have Champions League football.

If Arsenal can finish in the top four, it would be a major message to Nunez that the Emirates Stadium is the place for him.

The battle for Nunez is likely to take many twists and turns over the coming months, but United are clearly hoping the race goes their way.
