Arsenal want Danilo but their opening offer of £20million is expected to be rejected by Brazilian club Palmeiras.
The Gunners are suddenly pushing to bring in a new midfielder after learning of a couple of injury blows.
Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are both on the treatment table and it’s unclear just when they will return.
Edu may now need to dip into the market for another midfielder and the likes of Leandro Paredes and Idrissa Gueye – both of Paris Saint-Germain – have been mentioned.
They are two experienced battlers in the middle of the park, but Arsenal could instead go for a young up-and-comer.
Arsenal want Danilo
We know Edu loves signing a Brazilian or two. The likes of Marquinhos, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Jesus have all been added during Edu’s time at the club.
Even Pablo Mari was signed from Brazilian club Flamengo, so Edu appears to have his eyes across Brazil looking at potential signings.
One name regularly linked with Arsenal of late is Danilo, who has been shining for Palmeiras.
Danilo, who models his game on N’Golo Kante, has been picked out as one of the top young stars over in Brazil.
Esportes reported in June that Arsenal have offered a package worth around R$160million, which is around £26million, for Danilo.
Now, Goal claim that Arsenal have submitted a proposal worth £20million in the hope of signing Danilo before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
It’s stated that Palmeiras are currently minded to reject that offer as Danilo’s release clause is up at around €100million (£86million).
Arsenal are never paying that kind of money of course, but they may now face some haggling with Palmeiras.
Danilo still has more than four years left on his contract so Palmeiras will be looking to rake in big money for the 21-year-old midfielder.
With 12 goals and nine assists in 128 appearances for Palmeiras, Danilo has proven himself in Brazil and may now be ready for the next step – which could be Arsenal if Edu increases that opening offer.
