Tuesday night’s Champions League action might’ve been a little unsettling for many-an-Arsenal supporter.

Villarreal moved into the semi-final of the Champions League with a 1-1 draw away to Bayern Munich, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory.

And the fact that Arsenal sacked Unai Emery in 2019, the manager who masterminded the surprise victory, isn’t a good look for the North Londoners.

However, that wasn’t the only unsettling thing about Villarreal’s victory if you’re a Gunner.

The 88th-minute equaliser was scored by a certain Samu Chukwueze – a player Arsenal rejected the chance to sign while on trial.

Regret

According to The Guardian in Nigeria, the Emirates Stadium outfit had Chukwueze on a trial back in 2015.

He was there with his Nigeria Under-17 teammate at the time Kelechi Nwakali, who wound up being signed by Arsenal.

However, Chukwueze was not retained after a ‘disagreement’ on a £4 million fee, The Guardian also claim.

From Yaya Toure to Lionel Messi to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Gunners are known to have missed out on a number of players who ultimately blossomed into massively world-class figures.

And although Chukwueze isn’t in that bracket yet, Arsenal better hope that he doesn’t reach that footing – or go on to win the entire thing under Emery.

Because if the North Londoners rejected the chance to sign a Champions League winner, for £4 million, well it’ll reflect horribly on them.
