Arsenal have made ‘an intriguing offer’ to Lille central defender Gabriel and could close the deal today despite Manchester United’s late interest, according to Gianlucadimarzio.com.

United have made a late move for Gabriel, but Arsenal have matched Napoli’s offer of €26 million (£23.43 million) plus €4 million (£3.60 million) in bonuses to Lille and have also made the central defender ‘an intriguing offer’, according to the report.

Gabriel is closer to joining the Gunners, who could seal the deal today if Premier League rivals United do not submit a new and improved offer, it has been claimed.

Good signing for Arsenal?

Gabriel is a very good left-footed central defender who would make Arsenal a better team.

Although the Gunners have quite a number of centre-backs on their books, that Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded 48 goals in 38 league matches in 2019-20 and have not looked defensively great shows that he needs new and better players for that particular department.

Gabriel is only 22 years old, and the Brazilian – described by Lille owner Gerard Lopez as “extremely powerful” on BBC Sport earlier this month – will improve and get better in the coming years.
