Arsenal could turn to Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters as a potential signing before the summer transfer deadline.

Kyle Walker-Peters could yet end up back in North London with Arsenal seemingly considering a move.

That is according to The Express, who report that Arsenal are looking at more defensive additions.

Jurrien Timber’s injury is a major blow whilst Kieran Tierney is understood to be a target for Real Sociedad and West Ham United.

Timber offered Mikel Arteta great versatility, capable of playing across the back line with no problems.

Finding that kind of flexibility will be difficult but a full back who can play on both sides could become a key target.

It’s now suggested that Arsenal could turn to Leicester City’s Timothy Castagne or Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters.

Both players suffered relegation at the end of last season and Arsenal may look to bring them back to the Premier League.

Castagne and Walker-Peters have both played at right back and left back in the top flight so may well fit what Arteta wants after Timber’s injury.

Tottenham will be kicking themselves if Kyle Walker-Peters joins Arsenal

Arsenal could make their move for Walker-Peters before the transfer deadline and bring him back to North London.

Walker-Peters hails from Edmonton in North London and also came up through the Tottenham Hotspur youth ranks.

The 26-year-old – hailed as an ‘outstanding talent’ by pundit Danny Higginbotham – couldn’t really nail down playing time at Spurs.

Walker-Peters only made 24 first-team appearances for Tottenham before being sent on loan to Southampton in January 2020.

The Saints turned the move permanent for just £12million that summer, clearly loving what they saw from Walker-Peters.

Now an England international with two caps to his name, Walker-Peters has become an established performer for Southampton and a dependable Premier League player.

Walker-Peters may not love playing in the Championship and the chance to join Arsenal – who are in the Champions League and challenging for the Premier League title – may appeal.

The full back would have to put his Spurs history to one side but Tottenham have struggled to find a settled right back in recent times.

Walker-Peters could have been that player but he may instead end up with bitter rivals Arsenal in an unexpected twist of fate.
