Arsenal are searching for a couple of new midfielders this summer, with Anderlecht talent Albert Sambi Lokonga looking like a prime target.
With Dani Ceballos gone and Granit Xhaka potentially leaving too, Arsenal need to find two midfielders this summer to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad.
A number of names have been linked with moves to North London, but Lokonga is seen as a real talent for the future that can eventually become a starter.-
Arsenal’s move for Lokonga
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Arsenal have offered £13.5million to sign Lokonga, but Anderlecht are seeking £18million.
There was ‘optimism’ at Arsenal that a deal would be done, and whilst other clubs are keen, Lokonga looks more likely to join the Gunners.
The 21-year-old recorded three goals and three assists in 37 games last season and played a key role in Vincent Kompany’s side last season.
Lokonga’s link to Tottenham
If Lokonga makes the move to Arsenal, he would be following in the footsteps of his brother by leaving Belgium for a move to North London.
Winger Paul-Jose M’Poku is Lokonga’s brother, and he joined Tottenham from Standard Liege back in 2008, arriving at the age of just 16.
M’Poku never made a first-team appearance for Tottenham, and was ditched in 2011 after a loan spell at Leyton Orient.
Lokonga would be hoping for much, much better if he heads to North London, and you’d have to feel that his additional experience may stand him in better stead than his brother.
