Tottenham continue to be linked with a move for Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – and now, Arsenal could have a say in Spurs landing the Serbian ace with Lucas Torreira. That is, because Lazio are in talks for Torreira.

The Uruguay international has emerged as a target for Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio, after talks over a permanent move to loan side Fiorentina broke down. The report says a development over a move to Lazio could surface in a ‘few days’.

Torreira, 26, is expected to leave Arsenal permanently after spending the last two seasons out on loan. His current Arsenal contract is due to expire in 2023, meaning Arsenal have one more window to bring in some cash.

The pocket-sized midfielder can get the odd goal. While not as creative as Milinkovic-Savic, he is probably more hard-working and brings better defensive qualities to the table.

Arsenal have say in Tottenham landing Milinkovic-Savic, with Torreira

Sarri recently stated that if Milinkovic-Savic does leave Lazio, it will be to a foreign side. Reports indicate that Lazio want a huge £67.5million to let the midfielder depart – and Antonio Conte is keen.

Torreira and Milinkovic-Savic play in the same position. Lazio’s interest in Torreira does signal they are planning for life without the box-to-box midfielder, who clocked up 23 goal involvements last season in 46 games.

So, surely, if Arsenal choose to agree to Lazio signing Torreira – with Fiorentina talks at an impasse – surely that will see Lazio open the door for Milinkovic-Savic to go. They will have their replacement in the building.

That gives Tottenham a boost in landing the midfielder, as Spurs look to make a real go of it after qualifying for the Champions League. They have already made one eye-catching signing, in Ivan Perisic.
