Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer, a player that left the Emirates five years ago – and William Saliba could hand the Gunners the perfect opportunity to sign Bennacer in a swap deal.

Algeria international Bennacer, 24, left Arsenal in 2017 after just one senior appearance for the Gunners. He went to Empoli, before signing for Milan in 2019 – where he has since starred, helping them win Serie A last season.

The Gunners need a midfielder. Mo Elneny has remained, and Fabio Vieira has come in. But he is more attacking than the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey. Mikel Arteta need another defensive-minded midfielder.

Reports claim that Arsenal have tabled an offer of £34million to re-sign Bennacer. A player that earned praise from Arsene Wenger in the past, once branded “efficient” by the Arsenal icon on the club’s website.

Arsenal interested in Bennacer: Saliba swap deal

However, if Arsenal want to save some cash on Bennacer, they have the ideal chance to strike a swap deal – thanks to Saliba. The French defender has come back to Arsenal after a wonderful loan spell at French club Marseille.

But the Gunners already boast Ben White, Gabriel and Rob Holding. Pablo Mari has also come back and is liked by Arteta, after another impressive loan – with Udinese. So, Saliba could be let go by the Gunners.

Reports state that Milan want Saliba this summer. Bought for £27million, Arsenal will surely be looking for a small profit on Saliba. That is, given he has been out on loan, but impressed while out on loan. A France international.

So, he could be rated in the same region of fee as Bennacer is. If Milan want Saliba and Arsenal want Bennacer, surely it makes sense to consider striking a swap deal between the two clubs this summer?
