The Gunners would be making a shrewd move with a deal for the left-back.
This morning it was reported that Tottenham Hotspur would consider bringing Luke Shaw to the club this summer, as his career at Manchester United looks to be coming to an end.
The England international joined Manchester United for a fee reported by the BBC to be in the region of £27 million, potentially rising to £31 million.
But he has suffered with serious injury problems and is not looking like Jose Mourinho’s preferred option at left-back.

Yahoo Sports report that Tottenham are open to signing the player in the summer, as Mauricio Pochettino knows him well from their time together at Southampton.
But should Arsenal rival their North London neighbours?
Arsenal currently have Nacho Monreal as their regular left-back option, with Kieran Gibbs in reserve. Both are very good players at this level but Shaw could help take Arsenal to a whole new level, especially in an attacking sense.
The Gunners would have two of the fastest and most potent attacking defenders in the workd if Shaw joined to play opposing sides to Hector Bellerin.

Not only that, but the Gunners would also be getting one over on their local rivals.
Convincing Jose Mourinho to sell Shaw to Arsene Wenger may be hard, but if they could then it may turn out as payback for the time Mourinho snatched Ashley Cole from Arsenal while Chelsea boss.
Arsenal must surely consider Shaw a potential target.
