The Athletic have reported this morning that the Arsenal coaching staff hold some reservations about Gianluca Scamacca, with Newcastle United and West Ham United monitoring the situation of the Sassuolo striker.
The report has claimed that Arsenal are interested in Scamacca, who is open to leaving Italy and moving to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
However, the report has added that ‘Arsenal’s coaching staff are understood to hold some reservations about a player who is stylistically very different from their primary target’.
The Athletic have claimed that Paris Saint-Germain have already held ‘exploratory talks with Sassuolo’ over the 23-year-old striker, with Newcastle and West Ham also keen.
This report in The Athletic comes just days after 90min claimed that Arsenal Technical Director Edu has been impressed by the Italy international striker and wants him at the Emirates Stadium.
The Italian striker will reportedly cost £35 million in transfer fees this summer.
Should Arsenal try for Gianluca Scamacca?
In our view, Arsenal should keep monitoring Gianluca Scamacca’s situation and should not be reluctant to make a bid for the Sassuolo striker.
Now, we know that Arsenal need to sign at least one top-quality striker this summer, possibly two.
Scamacca is not among the ‘elite’ strikers, but he has developed over the past two years and is also an Italy international.
There is potential in the youngster to improve.
Now, Scamacca may not be ideal for the way Arsenal play, but a team always evolves, and so do players.
The Italy international scored 16 goals in 25 Serie A starts this past season.
Scamacca scored eight goals and gave two assists in 13 league starts during his loan spell at Genoa in 2020-21.
