Taylor was a target for Newcastle United in the summer, could he be heading to the Emirates?
The future of the left-back position at Arsenal was supposed to be assured.
Kieran Gibbs was meant to be the bright hope ever since his emergence in late 2008, but his regular injury problems have blighted his progress ever since.
Andre Santos was signed from Fenerbahce in the summer, and has had a decent start, before suffering an injury which could keep him out until March.
A report in The Sun today states that Arsene Wenger is continuing to scour the market for left-backs, and Swansea’s Neil Taylor has emerged as one of his top targets.
Swansea rejected a £1 million bid from Newcastle in the summer, and since then neither have looked back.
Taylor has helped the newly promoted Welsh side keep the highest number of clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season.
Aged only 22, Taylor clearly has a bright career ahead of him and a lot to offer.
If Arsenal can agree a good price for him, around £5 million, he would be a terrific addition to their squad.
Taylor would become the club’s second Welshman, joining compatriot Aaron Ramsey.
Currently Arsenal have been using Thomas Vermaelen as cover at left-back, but this means they lose him at centre-back where he is most effective.
Youngster Francis Coquelin deputised there against Fulham, and gave a promising showing and will have given Wenger an extra option.
Nevertheless all the signs are that Arsenal are on the hunt for a new signing, and they could certainly do worse than former Wrexham man Taylor.
