Charles Sagoe Jr trained with the Arsenal first team on Saturday as Mikel Arteta put his players through their paces ahead of facing Chelsea.

The Gunners return to Premier League action this afternoon as they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.

Arteta will be hoping for another statement win having already beaten both Tottenham and Liverpool this season.

A Sunday game means final preparations on the Saturday and Arteta called a few young players into first-team training.

Football London report that one prospect included in first-team training on Saturday was Charles Sagoe Jr.

We already know that Arteta loves to bring the likes of Ethan Nwaneri, Lino Sousa, Catalin Cirjan and Khayon Edwards into first-team preparations.

Sagoe Jr got his turn on Saturday.

Sagoe Jr has played 10 games in Premier League 2 this season and has impressed with four goals and one assist.

The 18-year-old has also played three games in the EFL Trophy and appears to have caught the eye of Arteta and co.

Primarily a left winger who can also play on the right or even as a number 10, Sagoe Jr appears to be an exciting prospect.

Arsenal’s official website describes Sagoe Jr as a ‘livewire’ attacker and praise his performances in the Under-18’s last season.

Their write-up also credits Sagoe Jr as being ‘genuinely two-footed’ and Arsenal fans will hope to see him emerge in the coming years.

It’s still very unlikely that Sagoe Jr will even be on the bench against Chelsea on Sunday.

Saka is fit despite a scare last week whilst Gabriel Martinelli and Reiss Nelson are available and maybe even Marquinhos too.

Saka is the idol for all of Arsenal’s young wingers and that will be the case for Sagoe Jr too, even if the path to following in Saka’s footsteps is a long one.
