Arsenal have shown an interest in signing Carlos Soler but the midfielder appears to struggling at Paris Saint-Germain right now.

The Gunners landed a new holding midfielder on deadline day as Jorginho made a late move from rivals Chelsea.

The Italian should compete with Thomas Partey moving forward but Arsenal could still look for another midfielder further forward.

Fabio Vieira is competing for one of those advanced midfield roles, but injuries to Emile Smith Rowe may tempt Arsenal into the market.

Adding a midfield with creative ability who will be comfortable playing as a central midfield but also drifting into wide areas would be ideal.

One name that keeps coming up that fits the bill is Carlos Soler.

Claims on the France Blue 100% PSG podcast back in November suggested that Arsenal were interested in signing Soler.

This continued the fairly regular speculation linking Soler to Arsenal.

Sky Sports reported in March 2020 that Mikel Arteta is a real admirer of Soler and wanted to bring him to Arsenal.

El Desmarque then claimed in January 2021 that Arsenal were still interested in Soler and hadn’t backed away from the then-Valencia ace.

PSG managed to secure Soler’s signature over the summer though, striking a deal worth around €21million (£18million) for the Spaniard.

The 26-year-old has only started eight league games for PSG though and he doesn’t exactly seem to be shining.

Soler featured against Toulouse at the weekend but Foot Mercato rated him at just four out of 10, claiming he displayed a ‘big lack of character’ as he failed to make any kind of impact.

L’Equipe went even lower, giving Soler just three out of 10 whilst claiming that he ‘disappeared completely’ in PSG’s 2-1 win.

Soler’s time at PSG just isn’t working and if Arsenal are still interested, a summer deal may well be possible.

Yet whether Arteta remains as keen after Soler’s struggles in France remains to be seen.
