After Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, their status as Premier League title contenders seems to have become unanimous.

During the Gunners’ initial run of getting wins under their belt, the club’s fanbase themselves largely scoffed at their chances of becoming English champions, due to the looming threat posed by Manchester City.

However, with an impressive points tally of 34 after 13 matches, many fans and pundits alike have come to the realisation that Mikel Arteta’s side are anything but pretenders as time progresses.

Against Graham Potter’s men as well, the North Londoners’ performance was the stuff of champions.

While the Gunners were breathtaking at times, they also showcased their ability to defend a 1-0 scoreline and dig deep to get the all-important three points.

Despite all signs pointing to them potentially ending their barren run of 19 years by finally winning the Premier League once again, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood believes Arsenal will not get over the finish line.

“Why not? The only problem is they have Man City in their way. Take Man City out of it, I know we can’t, you’d say they would be favourites at this moment in time”, he said live on talkSPORT.

Sherwood continued, “Not only because of the position where they are in the league but the style of how they play and the confidence they have, the trust the manager has in them and the trust they (the players) have in their coach, which is Mikel Arteta who’s done a brilliant job.

“But can they win it? I don’t think so because of City and because of Erling Haaland. Put Erling Haaland in Arsenal’s team. They win the Premier League.”

Ultimately, Tim Sherwood’s opinion is anything out of the ordinary, as it is widely believed that City, who have won the four of the last five league titles will lift the elusive trophy once again.
