The ink is still drying on the five-year deal Orkun Kokcu signed last year.
But, just a few months after he put pen to paper at Feyenoord, it appears increasingly likely his future lies away from De Kuip. Regardless of whether or not he wants to go, it seems the decision may be taken out of Kokcu’s hands.
“I have a contract until 2025 but the situation has changed,” the Turkey international told VI recently.
“(Feyenoord) have been very clear about their financial situation and it is clear it is not good.
“So if a club comes with a good offer for me and the club can earn a good amount, I imagine the offer will be listened to.”
One of Holland’s biggest clubs is sinking into the financial quicksand. And it seems selling a star player or two is the most likely method of escape.
And while Steven Bergwijn, Marcos Senesi and Denzel Dumfries are unlikely to be short of offers as the vultures start to circle in Rotterdam, it would be a major surprise if Kokcu was still a Feyenoord player when 2021/22 kicked off.
La Razon reports the 20-year-old is a target for Leeds United, Leicester City and a Sevilla side famed for unearthing diamonds in the rough.

And while Arsenal have been absent from the discussions since March last year – when they held talks over a deal that would have seen Kokcu arrive at the Emirates in summer 2020 – a vastly reduced price tag feels like an opportunity too good to miss.
La Razon reports cash-strapped Feyenoord will sell for £10 million. 12 months ago, Kokcu was valued at £23 million (Daily Mail).
2020/21 has been far from a stellar season for the little midfielder – with Kokcu himself acknowledging criticism of his performances have been justified – but form, as they say, is temporary.
And the Feyenoord academy graduate has class in spades.
