Arsenal ran out winners in the Europa League last night, as they kept up their 100% record in the competition.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has told Arsenal’s official website that he was telling technical director, Edu, that he was expecting a tough test for his side before last night’s game.

Arsenal went into yesterday’s match with Vitoria as heavy favourites to pick up the three points, but they were given a difficult evening by their Portuguese opponents.

Vitoria took the lead twice in the contest, with Arsenal struggling to break them down for large portions of the match.

In the end, Arsenal relied on two free-kicks from Nicolas Pepe to win them the three points.

But Emery was not shocked that Arsenal found it difficult going against the unfancied opponents.

“We know that every Portuguese team is very organised and they also have good structure, with good players,” he said.

“I remember when I played against Portuguese teams, every Portuguese team was difficult. Last year, we drew against Sporting 0-0. I was talking to Edu about that beforehand.”

Arsenal’s display last night has done little to relieve the pressure building on Emery.

There are question marks lingering over the Spanish boss, with Arsenal’s defensive problems continuing to be on display.

The Gunners have made good progress in Europe this season though, and have taken maximum points from their first three group stages so far.

Arsenal are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Crystal Palace.
