Arsenal forward Nicolas Pepe was on the losing side, as Unai Emery’s side slipped up against Sheffield United.
Unai Emery has told Arsenal’s official website that he thinks Nicolas Pepe is improving.
Pepe has endured a difficult start at Arsenal since signing, and his performance at Sheffield United attracted more criticism.
The attacker was guilty of missing Arsenal’s best chance of the match, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.
But Emery saw enough from Pepe to suggest that he is getting better.
“Pepe is improving and I think Pepe’s way with us is little-by-little getting better,” Emery said.
“The next step is to score. Tonight for example, the best chance is one he is usually going to score but tonight he didn’t take that with efficiency.
“He also had two shots that were very important. I think he is improving and taking confidence with us. But it is one process.”
Pepe is still yet to score for Arsenal from open play, with his move to the Emirates Stadium not going to plan so far.
The Ivorian was substituted off ahead of youngster Bukayo Saka last night, as Emery’s side searched for an equaliser.
In truth, Arsenal did not threaten enough with or without Pepe on the pitch, with further questions now being asked of the Gunners’ record signing.
Arsenal’s defeat to Sheffield United has seen them slip down to fifth place in the Premier League table.
