Mikel Arteta has revealed some very good news about Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international has only played five Premier League games for Arsenal since joining in a £45 million deal from Atletico Madrid in October.

Since arriving, Partey has been hindered by injuries and hasn’t played since the defeat by Tottenham last month which, incidentally, was his comeback game.

The North Londoners welcome Newcastle United back to the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, after beating them in the FA Cup five days ago.

And Arteta reveals to Arsenal’s official website that he’s been ‘reassured’ by the club’s medical staff that the big midfielder is able to return.

He said: “Obviously he hasn’t played much football in the last four months. He had an injury in exactly the same place he had before when he got injured against Spurs. Now we have the reassurance that he can compete.”

Arsenal have won three of their last four Premier League games, the only blemish being last night’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Arteta’s side are bang in form and it’s really exciting to see how much better they’ll get with Partey back in the first XI, if he makes the starting lineup against the Magpies.
