Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that Martin Odegaard is very excited to be at the club.

Odegaard recently joined Arsenal on loan from Spanish and European giants Real Madrid in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is scheduled to stay at the Gunners until the end of the season.

Arteta has raved about the Norway international and has spoken highly of his enthusiasm at Arsenal.

The Spaniard has also suggested that the youngster could feature for his team against Manchester United at the weekend.

Arsenal will take on United at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Arteta told Arsenal’s official website about Odegaard: “He’s a player that we followed for some time and we believe that he’s got some special qualities that we need, that we have been missing.

“Now we have to give him a little bit of time. He hasn’t played that many minutes in Madrid but he’s been training hard and he looks so excited, as we are, to have another big talent at our club.

“I think in the last few seasons he’s progressed and developed in the right way. I’ve followed him very closely because he played for Real Sociedad, which is my home town. I know him really well.

“I’ve been really impressed. He’s a such a talent. He needs the right environment, he needs a little bit of time but I think he’s got the qualities to be a success for us.”

The Spaniard added: “It’s a little bit early to decide. Let’s see how he goes in training and we will see, don’t worry.”

Good signing for Arsenal

Emile Smith Rowe has established himself as the creator-in-chief at Arsenal, but the English youngster is only 20 years of age.

The youngster will have games where he struggles, and too much pressure and responsibility should not be placed on his shoulders.

Odegaard himself is very young, but the 22-year-old has already got a lot of experience.

During his time at Madrid so far, the youngster has been out on loan at Heerenveen, Vitesse and Real Sociedad, and has also played 25 times for Norway.

The 22-year-old will give Arteta another valuable option in attacking midfield.
