Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted to the London Evening Standard that it should hurt his side to finish below Tottenham.
Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa yesterday means that they can now no longer finish above Tottenham in the Premier League table.
Jose Mourinho’s side have really kicked on in recent weeks, taking 13 points from the last 15 available to them.
Spurs now sit in seventh place in the Premier League table, five points clear of Arsenal with just one game to play.
And when asked how it feels to finish behind Tottenham again, Arteta said:
“It has to hurt and we have to suffer because it is not good enough for this football club.
“That’s why we have to put it right, we have a challenge that is really big and we are facing it and we are really excited about what we have ahead of us.”

Tottenham have now finished ahead of Arsenal for the last four seasons in succession.
Spurs haven’t even been at their best this term, but Mourinho’s side have still proven to be the stronger of the two North London teams in the league.
Arteta’s side do still have hope of winning silverware in his first season though, as Arsenal are set to play in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
