Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Pablo Mari ‘seems to be okay’ after reportedly being stabbed this afternoon.

Reports from Italy over the past hour [Gazzetta] revealed that Mari – on loan at Italian outfit Monza – was one of four people harmed during an incident in a shopping centre in Milan.

The news broke during Arsenal’s defeat by PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League this evening.

And speaking after the game, Arteta revealed a positive update on the 29-year-old defender.

He is reported to have said, as quoted by The Express‘ Ryan Taylor: “I just found out. I know Edu has been in touch with his relatives. He’s in hospital but he seems to be okay.”

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, one woman died in the attack and a 46-year-old man has been arrested.

Originally, the Spanish defender, who has made 14 Premier League appearances for the North Londoners, was among those thought to be ‘seriously’ injured.

But thankfully, the player seems to be in a stable condition, as per Arteta’s update on the situation via Edu, Arsenal’s technical director.

Mari joined the Emirates Stadium outfit during the winter of 2020 on loan from Flamengo, before ultimately signing for Arteta’s side on a permanent basis the following summer.

This is his second spell in Serie A this year, having joined Udinese on a half-season loan back in January.

This season, he has started eight league outings as Monza sit 15th in Serie A after 11 games.
