Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter has told The Argus that he thinks Ben White will prove to be a great signing for Arsenal.

White came through the Brighton ranks having joined from Southampton back in 2014.

After loan spells at Newport County, Peterborough United and Leeds United, White became a star at Brighton last season.

Arsenal then swooped in, splashing £50million on White to bolster Mikel Arteta’s back four.

White’s opening weeks at Arsenal

With that huge price tag comes massive expectations, and White did struggle on his Premier League debut with Arsenal.

Ivan Toney had his way with White as Brentford beat Arsenal, leading to questions about White’s physicality.

The 23-year-old hit back though, producing a superb performance to nullify Tottenhams’ Harry Kane last weekend.

White looks to be forming an impressive partnership with Gabriel, with Arsenal potentially finding a centre back drop to build on.

White returns to Brighton tonight

This evening, Arsenal travel to take on Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

This will be White’s first return to Brighton since joining Arsenal, and Seagulls boss Graham Potter has had his say on the defender.

Potter has now suggested that he understands White’s slow start at Arsenal, believing it was far from a perfect situation for him.

Potter does though believe that he is ‘sure’ White will be a success for Arsenal, backing him for a big career in North London.

“Whenever you move club, it’s not a straightforward situation,” said Potter. “As much as we’d like to, it’s not so easy to hit the ground running. I think that Arsenal, as a team, had a tough game against Brentford as the first game of the season and they had lots of issues in terms of Covid, etc. So, not the perfect situation for him but Ben’s a resilient character.”

“He’s a fantastic footballer and great guy. We all love him here. Apart from obviously this weekend, we wish him well – and I’m sure he will do well. I think everybody won from that situation. We got a good fee, they got a good player. Ben gets a chance to play at a club that he sees as a progression for him so everybody wins,” he added.
