Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are facing competition from Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma for Aston Villa central midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to Il Romanista.
Il Romanista have reported that Roma head coach Mourinho wants to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window, and that the Italian club’s director Tiago Pinto has Villa star Luiz on his target.
Roma and Villa have already been in contact, and the Serie A club could take advantage of their good relationship with his agent to land the 23-year-old Brazil international central midfielder.
The report has added that Arsenal have interest in Luiz as well.
Earlier this month, well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on his podcast that Arsenal ‘have an interest’ in the Brazilian, who was described as “unbelievable” by then Villa manager Dean Smith in The Birmingham Mail in June 2020.

Arsenal or AS Roma for Douglas Luiz?
In our view, Arsenal could be able to sign Luiz ahead of Roma in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners could finish in the Premier League top four, and that could be very appealing to Luiz.
Now, of course, we know that Roma are a big club, but the Premier League is the richest and most popular domestic league in the world.
Luiz could be tempted to continue to play in England, especially if he gets to sign for a club as big and global as Arsenal.
