Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that Arsenal are now in advanced talks with AS Roma over the departure of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The well-known and well-respected SkySports journalist has reported this evening that “in the last few hours”, there have been in-depth talks between Arsenal, Roma and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The plan is for the England international to move to Roma on loan in the January transfer window until the end of the season.

All three parties have held extensive talks to close a deal, and now Arsenal and Roma will have to settle on loan figures.

ESPN reported on Christmas Eve that Roma were in talks with Arsenal over signing the 24-year-old.

Leaving Arsenal for Roma beneficial for Ainsley Maitland-Niles

In our opinion, leaving Arsenal for Roma even on loan is sensible for Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The 24-year-old, who can operate as a central midfielder or as a full-back, is struggling for playing time at Arsenal.

Maitland-Niles has made only two starts in the Premier League so far this season.

Roma head coach Jose Mourinho is well aware of how good Maitland-Niles is and what he is capable of.

After all, Mourinho is a former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur manager and knows the Premier League inside out.

So, in our view, Maitland-Niles could flourish at Roma.

Just look at the regular playing time that Tammy Abraham is getting now.

The striker joined Roma from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.

The Roma no. 9 has scored six goals and provided three assists in 18 Serie A games and has scored six goals in three Europa Conference League starts so far this season.
